Man run over by a car receives large compensation settlement

A 72-year-old man suffered from horrific brain injuries after being run over by a car whilst cycling in Bridgnorth. Despite wearing a safety helmet, Derek Harriman’s life was changed dramatically for the worse after this collision. He was subsequently paid £482,500 in compensation after an out-of-court negotiation resulted in this settlement amount. There was no dispute over the liability and Mr Harriman, who now resides in France, has found it extremely difficult to live his life without considerable care from his family and hired help. The amount was decided to be in-line with the costs of helping Mr Harriman and his family meet the expenses of dealing with the future care and associated difficulties. Mr Justice Nichol, presiding over the case, was happy with the final amount and believed that such an incident has not only had a devastating effect on the injured party but also his family’s lives. As Mr Harriman is now 72, it was believed that a lump sum would be more appropriate than annual payments of compensation for being run over by a car.

    Has this happened to you?

As well as being injured due to the possibility of someone else not paying due care and attention whilst driving, you may also suffer from loss of earnings whilst you recover.
