Man awarded £2.3m after sustaining life-changing injuries

Kyriacos Georgiou, a 25 year old man from North London, was seriously injured in a car crash in September 2008. The young man, who sustained life-changing injuries after the car he was travelling in flipped onto its roof, has been awarded £2.3 million in compensation.

Mr Georgiou’s injuries included numerous fractures including injuries to his face and a brain haemorrhage after the crash on the A509. The driver of the car, Mr Ribeiro, was killed in the crash after the BMW convertible they were travelling in struck a kerb, flipped onto its roof and struck an on-coming car. Mr Georgiou now suffers memory and concentration issues, constant back pain, tinnitus, dizzy spells, depression and anxiety. His lawyers sued Mr Ribeiro’s insurance company, National Insurance and Guarantee Corporation (NIG), who accepted liability for Mr Georgiou’s injuries.

A £2.3 million settlement was awarded to Mr Giorgiou, to meet his future care needs and Judge Gerald McDermott QC, who approved the settlement, said to the claimant, “I hope this compensation means your finances are secure for the rest of your life.”

    Claiming compensation for life-changing injuries

If you or someone you love has sustained life-changing injuries, either in a road traffic accident, or perhaps due to an accident at work, have you considered claiming compensation? The aftermath of any accident can be a difficult time and you may feel angry, frustrated and upset that you have been let down by somebody else’s negligence or carelessness. The good news is that you may be eligible to claim, provided it is less than three years since your accident occurred. Contacting a personal injury lawyer can give you something positive to aim for during difficult times – they will be able to tell you whether you could claim and what the next steps are.
