Making your house safer for your newborn

Congratulations on the birth of your newborn baby. Whether it is your first, second or fifth it is still an exciting time. But, when you take your newborn home you may worry about potential hazards in the home. Accident Advice Helpline is here to help solve your problem of how to make your house safer for your newborn.

    General house maintenance

Before you even have the baby you may want to have a walk around your house to check that the repairs are up to date to avoid any accidents in the home, and make your house a safer environment. One big factor to consider is making sure there is no damp in the property as this could cause your newborn considerable harm. Make sure your gutters aren’t leaking or damaged and ensure there is no mold in your property. Also make sure there are no faulty appliances which could leak and cause damp. If you have recently bought an appliance and it has stopped working or caused damage to yourself or your home, through no fault of your own, you may be able to make a faulty product claim.

Make your house safer from Slips, trips and falls

Of course, your newborn can barely stay awake for long at the moment and can’t even crawl let alone walk. But, you need to think about yourself and others. The last thing you want to do is have a fall in the home whilst holding your baby. Ensure that everything is always tidied away and anything that is loose needs to be secured down firmly. Slips, trips, and falls are quite common with or without a newborn but many can easily be avoided. However, if this happens outside of the home you may qualify to make an accident claim if it wasn’t your fault.

Remember, having a baby is an exciting time but it also means being more aware of your surrounding and any potential hazards in the home. Plan ahead and make your house safer, as the last thing you want to be worrying about is having an accident.

But, if anything does happen to you or your newborn and it wasn’t your fault, Accident Advice Helpline can advise you on whether you would qualify to make a claim and can help make the process as stress free as possible for you.
