"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

What is the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM)?

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (known as IAM for short) is an independent charity focussed on improving road safety. They have a number of courses you can take that are fully approved by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). These courses are designed to test your existing driving skills and to enhance them so you become a much safer and more responsible driver. Those who pass the test that comes after these courses will get membership of IAM as well as enjoying free RAC membership and potentially lower car insurance too.

The Institute has information, courses and advice that is relevant to drivers, riders and even cyclists. As such it doesn’t matter what kind of road user you are, you can always improve and IAM is there to assist you in doing just that.

Claiming for compensation when you are involved in an accident

If you do join the Institute you will become a safer driver on the roads and you’ll be in less danger of having an accident. However, there are times when someone else may cause you to have an accident through no fault of your own. If this should occur and there is clear evidence that negligence has occurred on their part, you should consider bringing a claim for compensation.

In this situation you have three years from the date of the accident to launch such a claim. The amount you may win depends on the severity of the accident and the outcome and how it affects you. A professional injury compensation lawyer will be able to advise you on this.
