Hotel from hell leaves holidaymakers ill

Holidaymakers staying at the three-star all-inclusive Club Mac resort in Alcudia, Majorca had something included with their holiday which they didn’t expect – sickness and diarrhoea. Over 60 people suffered sickness and diarrhoea after staying at what has been dubbed the ‘hotel from hell.’

Tour operators reportedly offered £500 in compensation to those who had fallen ill whilst staying at the hotel from hell between May and September 2014, but holidaymakers were urged not to be ‘fobbed off’ at the token sum. Complaints about hygiene and safety at the resort were not taken seriously by the hotel or tour operators, with similar complaints dating back to 2011.

Holidaymakers expressed concerns about general hygiene as well as food safety and hygiene issues relating to the swimming pool. Despite these concerns, tour operators including Jet2.com, Thomson, Thomas Cook, Falcon and First Choice continue to feature the resort. Food poisoning and gastric illnesses are serious matters, but hopefully those affected by illness will be able to claim the compensation they deserve.
