"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    Esther Rantzen

How are hip injuries usually caused?

Most hip injuries are caused by a labral tear, which is when the cartilage surrounding your hip joint is damaged, or can also be caused by back pain, hip fracture, muscle strain or snapping hip syndrome – the most common reason for hip injury is usually a slip, trip or fall. Fractured hips can take months to heal, and are particularly debilitating for elderly people suffering from osteoporosis, who are the most likely to suffer a hip fracture from a slip, trip or fall.

    Maintaining public places

If you’re visiting a public place, it is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that it is safe. Hazards should be removed and adequate signage should warn you of any safety issues, such as a wet floor. If a business fails to do this, it is in breach of its responsibilities, and if you are injured as a result, you should seriously consider making a claim for compensation. Most businesses will have public liability insurance in place which will pay out in the event of a claim for compensation from a member of the public, and by claiming, you will ensure that the business will address their safety issues, so that nobody is injured in the future.

    How to claim

A hip injury can be debilitating, limiting your movement and causing pain, and it may mean that you are unable to attend work. If you are calling Accident Advice Helpline for advice or to make a claim for compensation, you should ensure that you have medical information and evidence to hand to support your claim – this could be in the form of signed medical notes preventing you from returning to work, payslips to prove loss of earnings or a note from your doctor or hospital outlining medical treatment received. The more evidence you can provide us with, the greater the chance of your claim being successful. We award over £30 million a year to people just like you who have been injured through no fault of their own.

It’s free to call us on our 24/7 helpline, and you will be able to speak to one of our team of slip trip and fall claims solicitors, who have experience handling claims relating to hip injuries. We offer no obligation advice and a 100% no win, no fee* service, so what are you waiting for? Ring us today and we could let you know whether you’re eligible to claim within 30 seconds.
