Health and safety compliance may be made easier due to new online portal

By David Brown on September 19, 2014

Funding has been found by The University of Exeter Business School, RH Environmental Ltd and local councils to start a new project called the Safer Workplace Better Business initiative. The idea is to ensure health and safety compliance becomes easier for those with small businesses who find the current situation extremely challenging.

Regulations of this type come from many different directions, including both locally and nationally. The EU also has rules that need to be adhered to, and many small businesses struggle to find the time to work out what needs to be done. The new project aims to change that, making it easier for small businesses to access appropriate information and to do so online.

The funding amounts to £20,000 at present and it has come from the Better Regulation Delivery Office. The money should enable the initiative to develop a better presence online so small business owners can access the information they need in an easier way. The idea is the information will be provided in a bespoke manner too, so this will ensure the service is user-friendly at all times.

How important is health and safety?

We hear, read and see a lot about health and safety compliance in the news, but it is not always easy to keep up with what is required. However the rules that exist surrounding this area are there for a reason. They are created to help protect people in all manner of different situations, particularly in the workplace. Everyone has a right to work safely during their working day, and complying with the rules means this becomes far more likely. Accidents will drop as a result of these rules, and this can only be a good thing.
