A Harry Potter actor has been in intensive care following a head-on car crash that has left him with serious injuries including a broken neck.
Jim Tavaré – known for his role as Tom, the owner of the Leaky Cauldron, in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – is suffering from a punctured lung and 15 broken ribs, as well as several breaks in his right leg and fractured breastbones.
A picture showing the Essex-born star in a hospital bed raising a thumbs up was posted on Facebook by his wife, who wrote: “This is Laura here. Now that his family have been informed, Jim has asked me to let you all know that he was involved in a serious car accident yesterday, a head-on collision.”
Although she did not give specific details about where the incident had occurred, Mr Tavaré is known to spend much of his time in Los Angeles, after moving there in 2008 following his successful appearance on reality show Last Comic Standing.
The Facebook post continued: “He’s currently in ICU intensive care. He’s had two blood transfusions so far and is about to go in for his first surgery.
“This is for real, not a movie role. Please hold some good thoughts for him as he fights his way out of this.”
Road to recovery
Laura has since posted an update on the actor’s Facebook page, confirming that Mr Tavaré is still in ICU and thanking fans for their messages of support.
She wrote: “I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for the many messages of support and love for Jim (and me) as we battle through this traumatic time.
“It means so much to know you’re out there routing for his recovery.”
The 54-year-old actor and comedian trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) in London
He is also famed for co-writing and starring in ITV’s The Sketch Show which won a Bafta Award.
