Groundwork, whether on a construction site or elsewhere, carries with it hazards that could leave workers seriously injured. Construction may be seen as a typically ‘dangerous’ industry to work in, but it doesn’t have to be that way, and in all honesty the approach employers take towards health and safety can make a real difference on a construction site. Any of these hazards has the potential to cause serious injury, but your employer can help keep you safe by ensuring that all staff are competent and have the training they need to work safely, by carrying out risk assessments before work commences, and by ensuring that you have the PPE required such as a hard hat, high-vis vest, safety boots and so on.
