A family of four have decided to opt for legal action following a holiday to Egypt that left the mother needing an IV drip. This occurred as the result of going through a gastric illness that ruined their holiday.
The family stayed at the Sensatori Hotel, a five-star venue in Egypt. Over the course of the break every member of the family became ill, with Kay Taylor-Baldwin, the mother, requiring a drip due to the severity of her illness. According to reports Kay is still experiencing symptoms of the illness even after returning home.
Reports concerning the incident have also stated that the family knew of others staying there at the same time as them suffering from similar symptoms. The family involved in the legal action have said they were served food that was lukewarm instead of piping hot. They also believe they were served meat and poultry that was not cooked properly before being served.
Thomson, the company that provided the holiday, has not made any comment regarding the legal action or the experience the family went through. It remains to be seen whether the legal action proves successful in this particular case.
Is it common to experience a gastric illness while abroad on holiday?
We tend to hear about these incidents because they reach the news. We never hear about the hundreds of thousands of people who have a great foreign holiday with no incidence of gastric illness at all.
However with that said there is always the potential for people to fall ill as a result of poorly-prepared or stored food in a hotel or other form of accommodation abroad. It is important to make sure you choose a good resort that is reliable and has a good track record in this area.
