"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    Farmer accident counselling

Getting specialist farmer accident counselling can be a big help if you’ve been left traumatised following an accident on a farm. It’s also easier to arrange than you might think. Although you may not be able to find it on the NHS (which usually only offers general counselling, with long waiting lists), a compensation claim could include money to help you fund it privately. At Accident Advice Helpline we can let you know if it’s possible for you to make such a claim, and what it would involve.

    Don’t suffer in silence

In a very physical profession, mental health can sometimes be a taboo subject, which is one of the reasons why so many farmers suffer from depression. In fact, good mental health is important in enabling you to use your physical skills effectively. It’s also an important aspect of your well-being. If you had a broken arm you wouldn’t just ignore the pain, so why should you do so if the pain is emotional?

Being involved in a farmer accident can be very distressing and it would not be surprising if it left you with mental health problems. You may struggle to get to sleep and then suffer from nightmares when you do. You may feel terrified of going back into the situation in which the accident occurred. You may experience flashbacks or you could become dizzy and have panic attacks. Sometimes problems can occur that don’t seem to be related, but which an expert can very clearly connect to the accident. You may find yourself shouting at people and becoming a bully, for instance, something not normally part of your nature, or you could suddenly find yourself breathing really fast for no apparent reason. Counselling can do much to help with problems like these. It can help you to recover the level of emotional fitness you need in order to deal with the ups and downs of day-to-day life.

    Making a compensation claim

As well as offering free initial advice, Accident Advice Helpline can help you to make a compensation claim, working on a no win, no fee** basis. If you decide that making a claim is the right thing to do, we’ll be happy to assist by arranging a solicitor for you and making sure that counselling is given priority as part of your claim. Just like our telephone staff, our expert solicitors are used to working with accident victims, so they’re very sympathetic and you’ll find them easy to talk to. They’ll do their best to minimise any stress associated with your compensation claim.

A claim for farmer accident counselling can only be made if your doctor has recommended such treatment, but it’s still possible that you’ll be asked to go through an independent assessment. The good news is that this doesn’t take very long and most people who undertake it say that it’s not too bad. Beyond that, claiming is likely to be a lot easier that you’d think, with your solicitor taking care of all the complicated matters. We want to you to be able to focus on getting better.
