Compensation for wedding venue food poisoning

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and chances are you have spent thousands of pounds on the perfect dress, venue, photographer and more – you want everything to go smoothly.

When you choose your wedding venue, the catering is often a deciding factor, and you put your trust in the caterers and venue to create delicious food that your guests will enjoy. No matter how expensive your wedding venue, there is still the potential for food poisoning to occur if staff have not paid attention to good hygiene practices.

If you or your guests are struck down with food poisoning, it could ruin not only your wedding day, but also your honeymoon and the first week or two of married life. Whilst most people begin to feel better within a few days, symptoms of food poisoning can last for a few weeks, and in some rare cases, even months or years.

You may need hospital treatment if you become seriously ill, and children and the elderly are at risk of dehydration if they suffer from prolonged vomiting or diarrhoea. If wedding venue food poisoning has ruined your big day, you’re entitled to claim for compensation.

How do you know it’s food poisoning?

The symptoms of food poisoning usually come on within 24 to 48 hours, although in some cases it could take up to a week before you feel ill. A temperature and fever is not uncommon, as well as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and severe stomach cramps. If you haven’t eaten anything that could have caused the food poisoning since your wedding day, or if friends and family are also complaining of illness, the chances are that you have been struck down by wedding venue food poisoning.
