The very thought of suffering vomiting and diarrhoea is unpleasant, and it is even more unpleasant to actually go through the experience. Most of us – if not all of us – will go through it at some point in our lives though.
There are plenty of bugs around that can cause these symptoms. Furthermore these symptoms can also be caused via food poisoning if the proper food safety procedures are not followed.
Thankfully most of us take appropriate measures to ensure we are not affected by these kinds of bugs or bacteria. There are times when our defences may fall down though, or others may not be as thorough as we are to ensure food does not become contaminated.
Taking action to prevent vomiting and diarrhoea
Since no one wants to have these symptoms, it is important to do all we can to prevent them from occurring. For example, we should all ensure all food we buy is stored properly until it is ready to be used.
In these cases we should make sure the food is kept at the appropriate temperature and is stored away from other foods that could potentially be contaminated by it. This is why food that is cooked should always be kept away from raw food.
Whenever we visit restaurants and takeaways we are trusting the people who work there and who run the establishment to follow all these rules. If you fall ill and suffer vomiting and diarrhoea you might end up being ill through no fault of your own, but through their fault instead.
What about norovirus and other bugs?
Some bugs are passed through food but can be caught from other people too. Good hygiene procedures should be in place in all public places such as hotels, cruise ships and other places where lots of people meet. If this is not the case it may lead to a potential outbreak if someone falls ill with the bug.
Accident Advice Helpline has already been able to handle cases for people who have suffered similar symptoms in a particular place. If someone else is found to be at fault for allowing those symptoms to occur, you may have a chance to make a compensation claim.
