Compensation for roofers hurt in accidents

Every now and then you might read about roofers hurt in accidents while they were repairing or replacing a roof. While such instances are fairly rare, when they do occur they can involve some serious injuries for the people concerned. Falling from a roof means the individual could end up falling from a significant height. The chance of sustaining serious injuries is therefore, quite high.

When an accident of this kind occurs, the Health and Safety Executive will come in and investigate the situation. This type of accident should be reported to them but there are instances where they may be alerted to it by some other means. They will investigate to see whether negligence was responsible for the injuries caused to one or more workers.

    Multiple injuries

Obviously any type of fall from a height is likely to result in more than one injury. In some cases people might be lucky if they fall onto something that can break their fall. However for the most part there is a distinct likelihood of roofers hurt in accidents sustaining more than one injury. Crush injuries, broken bones and perhaps even internal injuries and head injuries are all possible.

As you can imagine, some of these injuries might result in a long recovery period. Some can be potentially life-changing if they are of a serious nature. Even if the person can recover it may take many weeks or months, during which time they cannot work. If someone else caused the accident to happen it can be very upsetting for the injured person to come to terms with.

Could a claim for compensation be made?

It is entirely possible that some roofers hurt in accidents could make claims for compensation. It will always depend on the individual circumstances, how the accident happened and whether or not it could have been prevented. Negligence is the key word here – if someone was negligent and did not provide a safe working environment then the chances of compensation may be higher.
