    Compensation for major head injuries

Major head injuries can be life-changing and potentially life-threatening in some cases. The best course of action if a serious head injury is suspected is to get medical attention as quickly as possible. This ensures a professional medical assessment can be done so the right course of action can be taken, depending on what type of head injury has occurred and how severe it is.

In some cases a major head injury will be caused by a severe impact of some kind. In some instances this could be due to a car accident or a fall. While many accidents are just that – accidents – this does not always apply. If someone else was negligent in causing an individual to suffer major head injuries, compensation may be more likely to be paid out.

    Symptoms of major head injuries

Symptoms can vary from person to person depending on a variety of factors. For instance some head injuries may cause bleeding from the ears, or even clear fluid leaking from the ears. This can happen to one or both ears and is serious and requires urgent medical attention. An inability to communicate, understand where they are or remember who or where they are can also be signs of a more serious injury. Any head injury that results in a loss of consciousness should result in that person seeking medical attention too.

It is possible to fully recover from a major head injury. However, it can still take many months to do so. If you have been injured and someone else was responsible for that injury, a compensation claim can go a long way towards helping you manage the recovery process.

    If in doubt…

The golden rule should always be to seek medical advice if you are in any doubt at all over how serious a head injury is. Some can start off very minor and seem fine. Yet a situation can escalate quickly.
