    Compensation for leg injuries on holiday

    When you’re enjoying a week on the beach in sunny Spain, the biggest worry you probably have is how to top up your tan so you don’t look too pale in your bikini or swimming trunks. If you’ve been injured in an accident abroad, you could have far more to worry about – such as paying expensive medical fees for treatment in hospital, or even shelling out cash for a new flight home to be treated in the UK.

    How has your leg been injured?

    Ok, so some leg injuries on holiday may be unavoidable, like being stung by a jellyfish, but other injuries could be down to negligence at your hotel or resort. For example, you may have suffered any of the following injuries:

    • Lacerations, cuts, bruises or broken bones after a slip, trip or fall
    • Cuts from something sharp in the swimming pool or other public area
    • Allergic reaction, perhaps to something toxic in the pool
    • Muscle or tendon injuries

    Some leg injuries may heal quickly and it may be that you don’t need much medical attention. Other injuries, such as a crush injury caused in a collision (whilst on an excursion) or broken bones, could take longer to heal and may even affect your mobility in future.

    It’s worth remembering that you can only claim for injuries sustained abroad if you booked a package holiday and you’re injured whilst taking part in organised activities/excursions or whilst on the hotel premises – for example whilst eating dinner at the restaurant or travelling on a bus on a day trip.
