Compensation for an injury at a firework display

Firework displays are great fun for kids and adult s alike, but safety should always come first. Staying safe at your local fireworks display doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice fun, but it does mean that you could prevent an accident which could ruin your evening and cause you an injury.

Be sure to keep people at a safe distance from your bonfire and do not touch fireworks after they are lit. If you have sparklers, light them at arm’s length and keep a bucket of water handy for emergencies and to put out sparklers. Remember to wear warm clothing and wrap up the kids as it can get cold when standing around for long periods of time.

Attending a professional display is a good idea as there are strict health and safety policies which your local authority must follow to keep you and your children safe. They should have barriers to keep you at a safe distance from the bonfire and they may even have the display checked by fire fighters for safety. However, if there have been failings in health and safety and you suffered an injury at a firework display, you could make a compensation claim.

    Potential injuries from fireworks

Firework injuries can cause extremely serious burns and there are often a number of accidents at this time of year. Following instructions on fireworks and keeping people at a distance from the display can prevent accidents. However, if a firework display is not regulated properly, someone could sustain burns to the face or other parts of the body. If you have suffered an injury at a firework display, you may wish to make a claim to those responsible.

    Claiming for personal injuries

You can make a claim for compensation if you have sustained an injury that was someone else’s fault.

There may have been a failure to perform risk assessments or there may have been negligence on the part of those holding the firework display.

If so, you could be entitled to a cash payout which our solicitors at Accident Advice Helpline could help you win.
