Compensation for hotel swimming pool injuries

If you can book into a hotel that has its own swimming pool, you will be delighted at the prospect of being able to get up and swim, or perhaps even swim at some point during the day. These pools may be indoors or outdoors depending on where the hotel is located. In the UK they are often indoors because you can never tell what the weather will do. However, when the hotel is abroad there is a chance the pool will be outside.

Wherever the pool is located, you will be pleased to know there is little chance of suffering from hotel swimming pool injuries. This is usually because great measures are taken to adhere to health and safety laws and to make the pool area as safe as it can possibly be.

    What might go wrong?

When hotel swimming pool injuries do occur, there is a potential for them to happen in a number of ways. For example you might cut your foot on a broken tile in the pool itself. You might slip on unclean tiles around the pool that have become slippery with moss or mould. Uneven tiles or a slippery area around the pool might also be potentially dangerous.

Some people have contacted Accident Advice Helpline with information about similar injuries they have suffered while using a hotel pool. Thankfully such incidents are indeed rare but when they do occur they potentially have the chance to cause nasty injuries.

What could the potential outcome be?

While most injuries do heal in time, an injury suffered in this way could wreck your holiday if you are staying in a hotel for this purpose. It might also wreck a weekend away or a trip to see relatives. Whatever the case may be, you certainly would not expect to sustain an injury simply because you decided to use the hotel pool.
