    Compensation for hotel balcony falls

How safe is your hotel balcony? This is not the kind of question you should ever have to ask yourself, and indeed the vast majority of hotels that have balconies inspect and maintain them regularly to ensure they are always safe. However, falls of this nature do occasionally make the news, since they can be quite serious, as you might expect.

Hotel balcony falls can potentially happen from a significant height. Even a fall from one floor can lead to someone sustaining nasty injuries, depending on what they fall on. If they have something to break their fall it could potentially mean they would survive, but even then they might sustain some serious injuries.

How might hotel balcony falls happen?

Sometimes a fall may occur if the balcony is old and is potentially hazardous in terms of being unstable. This may not always be known before something goes wrong. In other cases the balcony itself may be fine but the railing around it could be jeopardised in some way. We should point out that accidents of this nature are exceptionally rare, but as we have learned when they do occur they can have devastating consequences.

Accident Advice Helpline has heard from people who have survived such falls with broken limbs and internal injuries, because of negligence by the people who own the hotel or other venue at which the accident happened. An accident of this nature can change a person’s life. As such it is important to make sure there is no chance of anything going wrong.

Make sure you know if you could make a claim

The last thing you would be thinking of immediately after an accident like this would be making a compensation claim. Medical treatment will be far more important – indeed necessary – at this stage. However, at some point you may well start thinking about it.
