Compensation for fingers trapped in a door

If you have ever had your fingers trapped in a door you will know just how painful it can be. Doors are not made to accommodate fingers and the likelihood of breaking one or more fingers and experiencing extensive tissue damage is very strong indeed. In some cases people have lost their fingertips when getting them trapped in a door.

Accident Advice Helpline can determine whether an incident like this is just an accident or whether negligence had a role to play. If the latter is true there is a chance that an amount of compensation could be paid to the person who suffered their fingers trapped in a door in the first place.

What should be your first action if this happens to you?

Clearly getting your fingers free of the door will be your first task. Opening the door in the normal manner is the only way to do this safely. If you are tempted to pull your fingers free you might incur even worse injuries. It is very common to experience bruising, bleeding and possibly broken bones when this occurs, perhaps in more than one finger if you have caught severely in a door.

Your next question might be whether the accident could have been prevented. In this case it can be hard to determine whether this is true, which is why many people seek the advice of a compensation lawyer with experience in this field. Negligence can sometimes potentially lead to incidents like this happening, leading to pain and upset for those who suffer.

    Recovery from injured fingers

In some cases people may not be able to work after suffering an incident like this. In other cases – more serious cases – they might have to undergo surgery to correct the injury. While it is said there is not a lot that can be done for fingers hurt in this way, this is not always the case. This is why you should always seek medical advice to determine whether anything can be done.
