Compensation for festive event food poisoning

Christmas is the time of year when you want to indulge, spend time with family and friends and enjoy a meal out – it’s also the time for office parties! If you have suffered festive event food poisoning, you might be able to make a claim for compensation; you’d be surprised at how common food poisoning can be at this time of year.

Whether you’ve enjoyed a meal out at a local pub, attended an event with outside catering or been to an office party at a bar or restaurant, there are a number of things which could lead to food poisoning:

    • Poor hygiene controls, such as staff not washing their hands and dirty work surfaces
    • Food being improperly stored, such as chicken not being refrigerated
    • Cooked and raw meat, seafood and poultry being stored next to each other
    • Food not being cooked properly
    • Food used past its sell-by date

If festive event food poisoning has affected you, you could find yourself suffering from nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps, and you may have a raised temperature. Symptoms usually resolve themselves within a few days, but if you are still feeling unwell, you may need to see your GP.

How serious is your food poisoning?

Whilst most symptoms of food poisoning resolve themselves within a few days to a few weeks, those who are already unwell, the elderly and children are at risk of complications, such as dehydration, and may need to be hospitalised until they recover.

In some instances, it may take weeks or even months for symptoms of food poisoning to fully subside – there have even been cases where people have suffered stomach problems or pains for years.
