The last thing most people would want to happen while on holiday would be to fall ill. Most of us look forward to taking a holiday for a long time before it actually happens. You can imagine then how frustrating and upsetting it would be to experience falling ill on holiday after such a wait to actually get there.
Falling ill on holiday doesn’t occur very often, but when it does there is the potential for people to become very poorly. Accident Advice Helpline has come across situations where people have been sick and contracted food poisoning as a consequence of poorly-maintained kitchens and sub-standard services. This can lead to disappointment for those concerned, not to mention the possibility of spreading bugs around a wide group of people.
What are the consequences of falling ill while on holiday?
The most frustrating thing is that you will likely lose a few days of your holiday in the process. You will probably feel quite sick and have stomach cramps and possibly diarrhoea as well. The nature of your symptoms will depend on the bacteria that has made you ill. In some uncommon cases people may require medical assistance if they become dehydrated.
Clearly there is a chance you may have your holiday spoiled in this situation. However, some people end up suffering for far longer than they may think. In some cases that have come to light through compensation claims being made in court, people have occasionally been left with an overly-sensitive stomach and have not been able to eat properly. Some are left with symptoms that can be traced back to the affliction and have never fully recovered.
Thankfully given the number of people who go away every year the actual number who end up with an illness of some kind is actually quite low. However, this is no help if you have been affected in this way. If this is the case you will know how low you can feel, with all the attractions around you in your resort and you feel unable and unwell to see them.
This is why we’d encourage you to call Accident Advice Helpline on 0800 689 0500 if you’ve suffered an illness on holiday in the last three years. You could have a good case to make for compensation to be paid to you so call today.
