Compensation awarded to couple after nightmare holiday in Egypt

By David Brown on October 8, 2014

A young couple have been awarded thousands of pounds in compensation for a nightmare holiday in Egypt according to reports. Gemma Saunders and Joe Pates from Watford fell ill within the first four days of their visit to the Hilton Sharks Bay Hotel and had to be placed on drips as a result. They both suffered from stomach cramps, diarrhoea and sickness requiring urgent medical treatment which was thought to be caused by poor food hygiene at the hotel. A doctor at the hotel attempted to treat their illness by administering injections but to no avail and the couple had to be sent to a local clinic for intravenous fluids. However, the illness continued for a further three weeks after Gemma returned home and her partner was also ill after returning to Britain.

The couple have claimed that the food in the hotel was reheated and was also left out uncovered meaning that insects could easily land on it. The couple sought compensation and won a total of £3,200 as a result. Holiday illnesses can result in a stay in a hospital abroad which can cost holidaymakers in medical bills as well as the cost of early return flights home. Failings in food hygiene procedures at hotel restaurants or buffets can result in food-borne illness and may cause complications for the sufferer. The amount of compensation won reflects on the incident, seriousness of illness and cost to the claimant.

    Holiday illness claims

While on holiday, the last thing you want to happen is to fall ill. In a strange country, this can be more stressful than if you were to fall ill at home, especially if the illness is severe. You may have to pay towards medical costs and many will lose the cost of their holiday not to mention the enjoyment of the holiday. Food hygiene regulations should be followed by any establishment serving food, including your hotel restaurant or buffet. If you suffer from a nightmare holiday and have fallen ill, you may be entitled to compensation for your inconvenience and pain. Calling a personal injury law firm like Accident Advice Helpline can make your claim go more smoothly.
