    Compensation for adverse drug effects

Many people take one or more drugs for one reason or another. This can be to manage or treat a current condition or to alleviate symptoms. You must trust your doctor to prescribe the right drugs in the right situation and to ensure you are given the correct dosage for your requirements. Regular checks should also be done to ensure you are still on the right dose and you do not experience any adverse drug effects as a result.

Taking drugs to make you feel better

The main idea when taking a drug prescribed by your doctor is to make you feel better in some way. This could be to treat pain or inflammation or any number of other symptoms that are present when you have a particular injury, illness or condition.

However if drugs are prescribed incorrectly or they are administered and not changed if side effects are experienced, you may be able to claim compensation for the symptoms and problems you go through as a result.

    What could go wrong?

The worst case scenario would be an overdose. This could lead to later problems or even death in some rare cases. Other examples of potential problems include toxicity, where there is too much of the medicine in the body and interactions with other drugs. In this latter example the doctor should always check which other medicines you are on before prescribing anything new. If they do not do this you could end up experiencing side effects that could easily have been avoided.

Whenever a drug is given it should be monitored over time and properly dispensed as well. If this does not occur there could be problems if the patient doesn’t notice or isn’t aware of an issue.
