Compensation for accidents outside school gates

Every weekday the school gates outside many schools become busy with parents and children. This scene can be witnessed twice a day from Monday to Friday and an area that is otherwise fairly quiet can become very busy with traffic and people. As such there can potentially be many hazards that would not otherwise be present at other times of the day. For example some children may be tempted to run out into the road without looking first. There may also be many parked cars in areas that are normally free from cars. This can make traffic heavier as more vehicles try to go past them in each direction. There will also likely be many people crossing the road outside the school to get to cars parked in other areas, not to mention those who will walk home.

Thankfully it is actually quite unlikely for accidents outside school gates to occur. However there are situations in which this has happened, and it often occurs when there is a lack of attention from one person. This has the potential to lead to an accident, perhaps because someone didn’t look before crossing the road or didn’t drive at a safe speed.

How bad can accidents of this nature be?

There have been cases in which children have suffered broken bones and other injuries as a consequence of being hit by a car outside a school. In other cases parents have been injured in similar accidents. It is rare that people are hit on a crossing when the traffic should be stopped, but this can also occur if a driver does not see that people are crossing and does not stop as a result. These examples show how important it is to make sure you are always as safe as you can possibly be.
