The most common injuries seen in A and E departments

If you walk into any A and E department you are likely to be greeted by a hive of activity. These areas always seem to be busy with a variety of different injuries and ailments. However, what are the most common injuries seen in A and E departments?

Slips, trips and falls

These are very common in an A and E department. Whether it has been a slip injury on an icy pathway, a fall off scaffolding or a trip injury from a loose paving slab or kerb. The most vulnerable group for a nasty slip, trip or fall injury resulting in a visit to A and E are the elderly as their bones and joints are more prone to damage.

Alcohol-related injuries

One of the most common injuries seen in A and E, especially at the weekend and over such times as Christmas, are alcohol-induced injuries. This could be alcohol poisoning, a slip, trip or fall injury that wouldn’t have happened if sober or worse, injuries from a fight.

Breaks and sprains

This is another common injury seen in the A and E department. The cause of the break or sprain could be a variety of things from a horse riding accident resulting in a painful fall injury to a child falling off a climbing frame. Broken bones require treating as soon as possible to ensure the bone is stabilised and splinted or put in a cast to stop further injury.

These are three of the most common injuries seen in A and E departments across the UK but there are so many more. If you have sustained an injury within the last 3 years that wasn’t your fault you may be able to make a claim.
