Claiming compensation for a serious child cycling injury

Any road accident is a harrowing experience to live through or witness. When the person injured is a child it somehow becomes even more upsetting – and with good reason. A serious child cycling injury is a nasty experience, particularly as children may not have the same degree of road sense and understanding as adults do. This isn’t always the case of course – often children will be fresh from learning road safety and adults can become complacent.

However, accidents do happen, and when they do cyclists tend to come off worst because they are less protected than car drivers. If you have one or more children you should ensure they are properly trained on how to ride on the roads so they know how to behave and what to look out for. Even a minor accident can really shake them up and make them fear getting back on their bikes again.

If the accident has occurred as the result of the actions of another person, there is a potential opportunity there to claim compensation on behalf of your child. There must be evidence of the other party being negligent, but experts in compensation can determine if this is the case.

How dangerous is it to cycle on the roads?

In itself, cycling is not a dangerous sport. However it does depend on how alert the cyclist is to their surroundings, and how aware other road users are as to where the cyclists are. Many accidents can be avoided if only people took more care. Sadly every single year people lose their lives in cycling accidents, with others being badly injured. The more we can do to reduce these accidents the better, in order to keep more people safe on the roads all year round. Proper training and responsible attitudes go a long way towards helping.
