Claiming compensation for extreme food poisoning

Most of us can remember a time when we have experienced food poisoning. It can happen in a variety of ways but they all lead to the same unpleasant consequences. Sometimes we may eat something that is past its date and we don’t get away with doing so. At other times we may be at fault for not storing or cooking something properly as it should be.

However on some occasions it is possible to visit a takeaway, a restaurant or even a venue on holiday and to suffer extreme food poisoning as a result of something we eat there. These cases are particularly stressful and upsetting because extreme food poisoning is rather different and can be longer-lasting than a traditional case of an upset stomach with diarrhoea.

For example you may find you are plagued with symptoms long after you eat the affected food. In some cases people have to be hospitalised for more intense treatment, instead of getting over the symptoms on their own. In these cases there may be cause for a compensation claim to be considered, if there is proof that negligence played a part in the food poisoning to begin with.

How severe can food poisoning be?

It tends to be worse in the very young and in the elderly. However people who are frail or who might already be suffering from another illness are likely to be affected more severely as well. In addition to this you will realise that various things can cause food poisoning.

Some bugs or bacteria are more severe than others, and it is in these cases that more severe symptoms can be experienced by anyone who is affected. Regardless of where this occurs it is quite a nasty experience for whoever has to go through it.
