How to claim falling overboard compensation

Can you imagine what it would be like to fall overboard on a boat or cruise ship? Of course, you may have searched for this article because you have already gone through this exact experience. Falling overboard is a potential hazard on any boat, but in reality the odds of doing so are very long indeed.

The reality is however, that some people – albeit in rare cases – will go overboard while enjoying a cruise or other type of boat trip each year. Rarities they may be, yet the experience for those people will be harrowing, as you may already know.

How can falling overboard affect you?

The horror and upset of this occurring is hard to quantify. Apart from any physical injuries you may suffer during the fall, there is the danger of hitting something on the way down, and of being hurt when hitting the surface of the water. This is particularly possible if you fall from a significant height on a cruise ship. In addition, the waters you fall into may be freezing, which means you are in danger of suffering hypothermia very quickly indeed.

Even if you are rescued very quickly, you may end up suffering mental anguish as a result of the experience. Suffice to say it could be some time before you recover from what has occurred. If someone else was responsible for causing you to fall, the experience could be worse still.

How could someone else be responsible?

The railings around a boat should always be in good condition and not loose in any way. If you lean on one and it gives way, there is a chance you may fall overboard as a result. They must also be of an acceptable height so you cannot fall over the top of them.
