If you’ve ever had the misfortune to be struck down by food poisoning, you’ll know that it often strikes when you least expect it, and it can have some pretty unpleasant symptoms – you’re going to want to take a few days off work and remain as close to the bathroom as possible. But botulism poisoning is even more serious – it’s a life-threatening condition which requires immediate medical attention and you could become seriously ill or even die. If you’ve suffered from this type of food poisoning, Accident Advice Helpline could help you claim botulism compensation. Our experienced personal injury lawyers provide a 100% no win, no fee* service, so that’s one less thing to worry about when you’re feeling unwell.
What is botulism poisoning?
Botulism poisoning is caused by clostridium botulinum bacteria, usually found in soil. It’s unusual to find this type of bacteria in food produced in the UK and most outbreaks involve tinned food from other countries. Botulism poisoning usually takes between 12 to 36 hours to develop after consuming contaminated food and initial symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps are quickly followed by neurological symptoms including:
- Difficulties swallowing and speaking
- Double or blurred vision
- Gradual paralysis
- Breathing difficulties
It is vital to seek emergency medical attention straight away as you will need treatment in hospital with antitoxin injections. These prevent symptoms from worsening but won’t reverse any paralysis that has already occurred. For most people, this usually improves over the coming weeks and months. The manufacturers of the food you have consumed could be held liable if you have been affected by botulism poisoning, and you could make a claim for botulism compensation with us. You could find yourself taking weeks or more likely months off work to recover from this serious illness, and why should you suffer physically, emotionally and financially as a result of the manufacturer’s negligence?
