John Dwyer, Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, has called for a local clampdown on Cheshire road safety. Over the Christmas and New Year period, Cheshire police arrested over 100 people for drink driving, conducting 2,000 breath tests. The Crime Commissioner has stated that keeping pedestrians, motorists, cyclists and passengers safe should be the police’s top priority.
He explained, “Deaths and serious injuries on our roads have declined over the past decade. However one death or serious injury on our roads is one too many. It saddens me to read the constabulary’s incident logs where there has been a fatal road traffic collision or one involving serious injuries. I would urge people to remember the rules of the road with safety being paramount to everything.”
Police in the area have also increased their efforts to seize uninsured cars as part of a focus on Cheshire road safety. Police cars fitted with an automatic number plate recognition device are used to check if vehicles are insured, with motorways around Warrington being targeted.
If you have been injured in a road traffic collision caused by a reckless driver, you could claim personal injury compensation but remember, there’s a three year time limit in place to make a claim.
Do you have a viable claim?
Whether or not you are eligible to claim personal injury compensation depends on who was liable for the accident you were involved in. Obviously, if you were speeding and caused the accident, you would be ineligible to make a claim, however if the accident was caused by the other driver, you may have a case. Contact a personal injury lawyer for advice and you’ll find that they are usually able to tell you then and there whether you have a viable claim – from there they can work to gather evidence in support of your claim to get you the compensation you deserve.
