What to do in cases of restaurant food poisoning

Cases of restaurant food poisoning can totally ruin what would otherwise have been a wonderful time. Regardless of whether you were out celebrating or you simply wanted to enjoy a meal with a loved one, you can imagine how unpleasant it would be to suddenly find yourself stricken with the nasty symptoms of food poisoning.

In some instances, one or more people with you on that occasion may also have fallen ill. This can make it easier to determine which food or dish was to blame. In other cases, other diners may have fallen ill as well.

    Reporting the incident

In cases of restaurant food poisoning, it is important to report what happened to the restaurant itself. This means you have a chance to highlight any potential issues they may have. However, many people also report it to their local branch of the Food Standards Agency. They have the power to investigate such incidents and to see whether there are problems that can be discovered.

Clearly, you would need evidence of your illness if you are to stand a chance of claiming anything for what occurred. You would also need to claim within a period of time – three years – in order to have a chance of being successful.

    Recovering from food poisoning

It may take a few days to recover from an incident of food poisoning. For example, you may find you feel weak and ill for a day or two, and cannot eat during this time. After that, you may start eating bland foods and slowly building up your appetite again. It can take some time to feel properly back to yourself. Indeed, in some isolated incidents there have been people who have still felt ill many months after the incident occurred. However, these cases are rare and are far from the norm.
