What to do in case of a slip, trip and fall accident

Slip, trip and fall accidents are common and frequent occurrences. They can take place at any given time, no matter where you are and usually when you least expect them to happen. Often enough, these slips and falls can result in some very serious injuries and the subsequent medical bills might become extremely difficult to deal with.

What should you do then, in case you have been involved in a slip, trip and fall accident? Of course, there are cases where you have no one to blame but yourself for the mishap. But most accidents, such as those at workplaces, shopping malls, or while walking down the pavement are not your fault and thus, you can file for an injury compensation claim.

    The steps to take

A slip, trip and fall accident is not something on your everyday to-do list, yet you just might end up in one no matter how many precautions you take. Being injured in one, sometimes severely, is never easy though, so you need to be aware of how to deal with its aftermath.

    • Your health is always a primary concern. Therefore, you should seek medical help as urgently as possible. Additionally, you should document your injuries and all medical bills as evidence for the claim process.

    • Time is of the essence following an accident, and you need to utilize it to your best advantage. Report the incident to the relevant authorities immediately, and ensure that they record an accident report. Acquire a copy of the report and keep it alongside your personal documentation of the incident.

    • Photographic evidence can prove to be crucial in determining who was at fault for the slip, trip and fall accident. Note the exact time and location of the incident, as well as the conditions that caused the accident. Take pictures from several different angles and ensure that you capture the causative element, such as water that made you slip.

    • You might need to call the people responsible for the accident and any witnesses to the scene, so collect all necessary information, such as names, contact numbers, and addresses. Inform the witnesses that you might call them to testify for the claim process.

    • The clothes and shoes you were wearing at the time of the accident are also pieces of important evidence. Store them away safely and do not wear them again until you have won fair compensation for your injuries and losses from the accident.

    • Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, you will need an experienced solicitor to represent you and to help you deal with the slip, trip and fall accident. They can handle the hassles of the paperwork, deal with the insurance company, and win you fair compensation for any injuries or losses you have suffered.

If you have been injured in a slip, trip and fall accident, call Accident Advice Helpline on 0800 689 0500 and we can help protect your legal rights and get you the compensation you deserve.
