"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

You can claim for food poisoning compensation

One of the greatest, most simple joys we have in life is going out for a good meal. As rewarding as it can be to cook a hearty meal at home, there’s something unmistakably ‘special’ about having somebody else prepare and cook our food for us, which is especially true if you’re not much of a chef yourself.

When we arrive home from a wonderful night at our favourite restaurant to find that ‘not all is well’ with our stomachs though, the occasion can turn bitter-sweet on a sixpence.

Food poisoning is no laughing matter. Whilst in the majority of cases it won’t need treatment and will alleviate itself after a few days, in rare cases the results can be far more severe and potentially devastating, especially true if you are vulnerable to infection.

Mild symptoms can range from violent vomiting, stomach cramps, fever and diarrhoea, but in the more severe cases food poisoning can lead to permanent nervous system damage, paralysis and even death in some rare cases.

Can I make a personal injury claim if I have been poisoned?

At least 5 million people a year are estimated to suffer from food poisoning in the UK and if you are part of the small percentage whose case has led to serious illness then Accident Advice Helpline should be able to help you make a personal injury claim against the restaurant that poisoned you.

Food poisoning is caused by contaminated food and there are (unfortunately) countless ways in which the food can become contaminated. The food might not have been cooked properly, the chef might not have cleaned their hands or the cutlery might not have been sanitised to a reasonable level.

It’s even possible that the food might have simply passed its ‘use by’ date or might have been a victim of cross contamination from other foods. The cause is not really important though as the results are invariably the same and if you feel like you’ve incurred any serious physical, mental or fiscal trauma as a result of food poisoning, Accident Advice Helpline are prepared to take your call on our 24/7 hotline.
