A South Northants MP has expressed concern over a dangerous junction after a serious of accidents occurred within the space of a week. Andrea Leadsom met with residents surrounding the A508 to discuss the issue and has also contacted relevant authorities after a 21-year old girl died on the road.
Mrs Leadsom is hoping that the problems on this road can be reviewed as soon as possible due to this incident along with the five other serious accidents which occurred over one week. The MP has written to the Highways Agency, the police and Northants County Council to encourage them to take action. Mrs Leadsom has stated that she has witnesses the excessive speeds of drivers on the road which causes difficulties when other road users attempt to pull out onto the road. In addition, she expressed concern over the road signs and markings on the road. Mrs Leadsom has spoken with Northants Police superintendent Andy Cox to discuss the possibility of introducing traffic calming and reinforcement measures regarding the 50mph speed limit. Northants County Council has said that it is reviewing Mrs Leadsom’s concerns and stress that the A508 road is monitored along with the rest of the county’s roads.
Consequences of reckless driving
A dangerous junction like the A508 can result in serious road accidents and even deaths caused by collisions and dangerous driving. Speeding can prevent drivers from stopping suddenly should a pedestrian step onto the road and driving recklessly in bad weather conditions could cause a serious collision. The speed limit is set as a guideline and drivers are often encouraged to stay below the limit and be mindful of road or weather conditions. Driving while under the influence can result in looser inhibitions which can cause drivers to take risks on the road. In addition, driving while tired or failing to be aware of your surroundings could potentially cause a collision. If you have been involved in an accident on the road but someone else was at fault, you could be entitled to a cash payout for your injuries.
