Bradford Council’s Food Safety Team sends strong message to local food outlets

By David Brown on August 12, 2014

The Food Safety Team with the local authority Bradford Council has sent a stern message to all food outlets in their vicinity. The past 12 months have seen a total of 18 separate food outlets prosecuted as a result of poor standards. The same period of time saw a further 75 warning notices issued to offending outlets.

The message is clear – the Food Safety Team is determined to ensure the people of Bradford can use restaurants, takeaways and other food outlets with confidence, without having to worry about falling ill. The team handled nearly 700 cases of food poisoning during the same 12-month period. These were of various kinds including dysentery, salmonella bacteria and most commonly gastroenteritis.

Overall Bradford Council has seen an improvement in the statistics on food outlets throughout the year from 2012-13. Outlets that required serious improvements – granted a zero rating according to the council – fell from 1.3% to 1%. The best five-star rating was given to an increased number of businesses too, rising from 58.8% to 60.5%. The largest proportion of businesses – 87% of the total – was also rated at three or above, and again this was an improvement on the previous year.

Does food poisoning mean you can claim monetary compensation?

Every year thousands of people suffer from food poisoning. Sometimes this is due to inadequate food hygiene measures being put into practice at home, but on other occasions it is due to eating food that has not been stored, prepared or cooked properly at a food outlet. This could be a restaurant or a takeaway. If you think you have been affected in this way and you have proof that negligence was to blame, you could have enough evidence to launch a strong no win, no fee case for compensation.
