Mars has recently recalled bottles of chocolate milk amid fears they could contain the food poisoning bacteria Bacillus, which can cause diarrhoea and vomiting. Consumers are being warned not to drink Snickers Shake, Mars Milk and Galaxy Smooth Milk after tests revealed the bottles contained elevated levels of food poisoning bacteria.
Bacillus is usually found in sauces, soups and other prepared foods, particularly those that have sat out at room temperature. Now batches of the chocolate milk with a best before date from 19th December 2014 to 11th April 2015 have been recalled. This includes sports-cap and 750ml ‘fridge-pack’ drinks.
A spokesperson for Mars commented, “We are recalling all of the products listed as a precaution as they could pose a possible health risk due to the potential presence of a type of the bacteria known as Bacillus.”
