Botched foot operation leads to compensation claim

By David Brown on September 19, 2014

A woman who has undergone five operations on her foot in a period of nine years is set to seek compensation as a result of the treatment she has received. Joyce McVinnie from Dumfries underwent her first surgical procedure back in 2004 and has gone through many other procedures since. She decided to seek compensation last year when she learned of the time limit placed on considering compensation claims.

Joyce has had to give up her cleaning job as a result of the botched foot operation and the pain she suffers from her foot. The original surgery was, according to Joyce, to get rid of excess tissue she had around the toes of her right foot. However the operation resulted in the fitting of a metal plate. A further operation led to the removal of the excess tissue and then a third procedure led to the removal of the metal plate.

Despite another two procedures being done on the affected foot Joyce still claims to be in pain and she says she has only had one treatment at a clinic. She believed there would be regular treatment but this was not the case.

How much could a medical condition change your life?

If you suffer from an ongoing medical condition it can have a marked effect on your life. For example in this particular case the individual has had to give up work because she cannot stay on her feet all day. When a particular condition is exacerbated by a potential lack of medical care it makes things worse. This could result from an injury or illness but if there is a potential case for medical negligence it is worth finding out more.
