"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    Bonfire night accident counselling

If you are suffering from emotional trauma as a result of a bonfire night accident, you may benefit from bonfire night accident counselling.

Bonfire night is usually a happy family occasion, which makes it all the more horrifying if things go catastrophically wrong. Every year many people suffer severe and even life changing injuries as a result of a bonfire night event that went wrong. If you have suffered in a bonfire night accident your immediate concern will quite rightly be your physical recovery from your injuries. However, you will also have suffered a severe emotional and psychological trauma, and the symptoms of this can persist long after your physical injuries have healed.

    Symptoms of psychological trauma

Possible symptoms of psychological trauma include having nightmares and flashbacks to the accident which can be triggered by the smallest thing. For example, the noise of a balloon popping may transport you back to the terrifying moment of a firework exploding in front of you. You may have physical symptoms such as breathlessness, sweating and an unusually strong or fast heartbeat. You may also suffer from insomnia, panic attacks and mood swings. If you have suffered life-changing injuries such as loss of fingers or sight these can be particularly hard to come to terms with, as can living with a permanent disfigurement.

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms you must consult your doctor as they may not go away by themselves and can be devastating to live with. Your doctor may suggest accident counselling, which is available on the NHS but there may be long waiting lists. Private counselling would mean that you can get the help sooner, but can be expensive at a time when you have already faced unexpected costs and may be unable to work.

How can Accident Advice Helpline help?

People often think that a personal injury claim is just for the financial consequences of your physical injuries but this is not the case. Personal injury compensation can help cover the costs associated with the accident, including the costs of counselling if it has been recommended by a doctor.

If we are already working on a personal injury claim for your physical injuries, make sure you update your solicitor about your need for counselling and keep receipts for any treatment that you pay for.

They will be able to confirm if you are entitled to compensation and how much you may be entitled to claim.
