25-year-old Adam Russell from Innerleithen was seriously injured in a collision whilst riding his bike on the A72 from Peebles to Innerleithen. As he passed the entrance to Glentress, a 4 x 4 and 30ft trailer pulled out of a field and in front of him onto the carriageway, failing to give him enough time to stop.
Despite heavy braking, Adam was unable to stop in time and although he attempted to steer around the vehicle, his bike hit the trailer and he was thrown from his bike, sustaining multiple injuries.
Adam was seriously injured in the collision in September 2012, breaking his left thumb and every finger of his right hand. For two and a half months, he could not use his hands and had to be cared for by his mum, undergoing extensive surgery. He was also unable to return to work as a roofer for six months.
Now Adam’s case has finally been settled after a stressful, drawn-out two year wait. The driver was held liable for the collision and Adam has received the full amount of agreed damages for his accident.
Have you been seriously injured in a collision?
There’s no doubt about it – riding a motorbike can be dangerous, but often drivers of motor vehicles fail to pay proper attention to those on bikes, which means accidents can happen. If you have been unlucky enough to be involved in a collision, through no fault of your own, you might be wondering if you could claim compensation for your injuries.
Maybe you have been forced to take time off work to recover, or have been left with chronic pain from injuries which will never fully heal? Whatever your situation, contact a personal injury lawyer to find out if you’re eligible to make a claim – but don’t forget there is a three-year time limit in place to claim.
