What to do if you suspect someone has injured their spine
In most cases people are advised to not move someone who has injured their spine. It may not be immediately obvious that a victim has injured their spine and they may not even feel any pain as they could be suffering from severe shock which is blocking the true extent of the damage.
If a person comes off a bike, motorcycle or is in a car and is involved in a collision a trained first aider should keep the person still and not try to move their head or body or remove any headgear unless the victim is struggling to breathe. The victim should be kept still until a paramedic or doctor is able to take over.
If you are interested in learning first aid there are many courses available and all advice given here should be checked with a certified first aid instructor as information can change according to practice and the situation you may be faced with.
