Avoiding travel claims after holidaying in North America

As destinations for British travelers and holiday makers go, America is an easier adventure than most. The language, so often the most insurmountable hurdle when it comes to exploring foreign lands, is virtually the same while the two nations enjoy a healthy relationship.

There remains, however, certain procedures and tips it is wise to follow to avoid travel claims for an accident on holiday which could paint a gloomy black spot over the whole adventure.

How can I avoid having to make travel claims after a trip to the States?

As with anywhere in the world you choose to travel, there are a number of things you can do to minimise the risks involved in North American travel. Before you travel, these include:

–  Double checking all your bookings. From flights and hotels to car hire and attraction entry, it is wise to make sure everything runs exactly as you expect it to.

–  Printing off and leaving copies of your essential documents in your home. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Once you’ve landed, to avoid having to seek holiday accident compensation afterwards, it is wise to:

–  Securely lock the majority of your money away in your hotel room. Take with you only what you need on each day so that, should the worst happen, you have plenty left in the reserve.

–  Keep your passport securely about your person. This can play a huge part in diffusing misunderstandings with authorities or successfully seeking help.

–  Know where you are going. The wide-eyed, ambling tourist sticks out like a beacon and naive behaviour marks you out as an easy target to those with ulterior motives.

–  Remember that there is safety in numbers. Wherever possible, travel in groups and avoiding wandering around alone, particularly after dark.

–  Know your route. As in any country, there are some places in the United States that are simply no-go areas. If at all possible, notify others of your estimated time of arrival so the alarm can be quickly raised.

Essentially, the key is to be as alert and vigilant as you would when visiting any other area. However, it is also important to remember that, should a holiday accident or travelling injury occur, then you may well be due some compensation.

Accident Advice Helpline have over a decade of experience in travel claims, work injury claims, traffic accident compensation and a host of other cases to help get you the compensation you deserve.
