    How to Avoid Trips and Falls at Work

    Enduring an accident whilst at work is an extremely unpleasant experience, but they are fairly common throughout workplaces in the UK. 15 people lose their lives each year as a result of these awful incidents and hundreds more suffer severe and life-threatening injuries. The number one cause of workplace accidents are trips and falls, and many of these could be avoided. Your employer has a duty of care in place that should be protecting their employees from these accidents but this doesn’t always happen. Therefore, each and every employee needs to use some basic common sense and housekeeping practices to reduce the prevalence of these incidents.

    Why do so many falls and trips happen in the workplace?

    A slip or fall may happen in the office, or at the top of a tall construction building, but the causes are usually pretty identical. No matter what your surroundings are, the walkway needs to be clear of clutter. This could mean a few empty boxes on the carpeted corridor, or some slippy liquid on a scaffolding walkway. It is all about paying due care and attention as well as maintaining a clean working environment.
