    Aviation accidents: Turbulence

All of us will have probably experienced airplane turbulence whilst flying. However, many would not consider it as the cause of personal injury.

In fact, accidents relating to turbulence are on the increase. If you have had an injury on a passenger jet as a result of in-flight turbulence, then you could be a claimant of personal injury compensation.

Pilots can usually give a warning as to when the aircraft may be entering an area of turbulence. The cabin staff would then ask passengers to return to their seats and fasten their seatbelts until the aircraft has passed through the area of turbulence.

If no warnings have been given and you have been injured as a result of an air turbulence related accident, then you could be entitled to compensation.

Accidents that can occur during turbulence include:

    • Passengers could bump their head on the ceiling of the plane if they are not safely secured in their seat with their seatbelt on
    • If passengers are walking down the plane and no warning has been given about oncoming turbulence then a fall could occur
    • If the plane becomes very bumpy during turbulence then there is the potential for baggage to fall out of the overhead compartments. If a piece of baggage falls onto a passenger then that could cause serious personal injury.

How can I claim after suffering from an accident during turbulence?

If you have been the victim of an accident after aircraft turbulence, and you can prove that the airline staff were negligent and did not warn passengers about the turbulence, then Accident Advice Helpline could help you gain compensation.
