Top 5 potential accident claims for a home delivery worker

Home delivery workers often work all hours making sure our parcels get to the right address. However, being a home delivery worker like all jobs comes with its potential hazards including slips, trips or falls. Here are 5 potential accident claims for a home delivery worker.

Slips, trips or falls in the warehouse

Before leaving the warehouse a delivery worker often has to help pack up the vans for the day. Warehouses are busy places and there are often lots of boxes around so it is quite easy to have a slip, trip or fall at work.

    Falling off the van

This may seem like a strange accident claim but can happen if you are rushing to go and make the deliveries and you are not particularly looking where you are going. If you are in the back of the van you could have a nasty slip, trip or fall over one of the many boxes or even whilst trying to get out of the van, especially if someone has lowered the lift part which could be grounds for a slip, trip or fall claim.

    Trip injury out on rounds

Whilst you are out delivering the items, if you are not careful an uneven paving slab or a statue someone has left on their garden path could become a painful slip, trip or fall injury.

    Driving around

If you are driving around for a long time ensure you take plenty of rest breaks. If you don’t you may find yourself becoming very tired which could cause a car collision and mean an injury worse than a simple slip, trip or fall.

Lift properly from the knees, not using your back

When picking up parcels, no matter what size they are, make sure you are lifting properly and bending your knees. If you don’t you could find yourself with a nasty injury far worse than a simple slip, trip or fall. If you bend properly you will help your back, but if the item is too heavy get someone else to help you.

If you have had a slip, trip or fall within the last 3 years that wasn’t your fault you may be able to make a claim. Speak to Accident Advice Helpline to see how they can help you get the compensation you may be entitled to on a no win no fee** basis.
