    Survivor guide: Visiting Lapland

Arguably, the most magical place is the world to whisk the little ones off to over the festive period. The home of the man in red himself, Father Christmas, complete with huskies, reindeer, log cabins and mountains of snow, Lapland is enough to delight even the most miserable of Scrooges.

When travelling with the family it is imperative the safety comes first to avoid holiday accidents and injuries while abroad. Nothing takes the sparkle out of a festive getaway more than a loved one suffering.

    Lapland safety: Booking your break

When booking your break it is always wise to think ahead and cover all eventualities, especially where children are concerned.

First and foremost, be sure to book your break through a UK travel agency. This allows for a more streamlined process should you need to instigate a claim for travel accident compensation on your return.

This will ensure that UK law in the case of an accident will cover all elements of your holiday that has been arranged by the holiday company. If you choose a full board Lapland package, for example, this would then include your travel, accommodation and food while away.

Purchase insurance on the basis of your time and length of stay, group size, and remember to declare any activities you may undertake during your holiday.

Lapland safety: Health and safety while you’re away

    • Be weather-wise: pack appropriately, including winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves and layers. Skiing attire is also handy.
    • Listen to instructors and follow safety advice before using a snowmobile, husky sledge or other winter sports.
    • In the case of falling through ice – stay calm and turn to the direction you came from, call for help. Attempt to pull yourself on top of the ice and roll onto ground.
    • If you fall through ice or get lost on land, remember the emergency number is 112. Stay still, as to retain as much body heat as possible, and do not sleep.

    Lapland safety: Personal injury compensation

If you or a member of your family became injured during your time in Lapland, you must consider the cause of the holiday accident and consider the implications.

When the holiday accident in question happened within the last three years and was at no fault of your own, you may have a valid case for a personal injury compensation claim.

In this case, a law firm, such as Accident Advice Helpline, can take the stress off your shoulders.
