    Survivor Guide: Visiting Istanbul

Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, has lots to offer, particularly to those who enjoy soaking up the sun. Visit the main attractions such as the Basilica Cistern, the Aya Sofya museum and Topkapi Palace. Of course, a trip to Istanbul shouldn’t be without a visit to one of the many steamy bathhouses for a relaxing spa day. Take in some of the local culture by visiting the Suleymaniye Mosque or stop in at the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. Although Istanbul is one of the safer places to visit, it always pays to be aware of some personal safety tips whenever you travel abroad.

    Safety tips for Istanbul

The summers are extremely hot in Turkey therefore there is a high risk of sunstroke or heatstroke if you do not take precautions. If the hotel has parasols, take a break now and again in the shade. Always wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun in the mid-afternoon as this is when it is at its hottest. Traffic accidents are common, particularly for pedestrians as people do tend to drive quite recklessly. Cars can also come from either direction so stop and look both ways before crossing.

    Accidents and injuries in Istanbul

Your getaway to Istanbul should be free of accidents if the travel company has looked after you. However, if an accident does happen that is someone else’s fault then you can make a compensation claim. Typical accidents could happen in the hotel, such as slips trips and falls, or they could occur while you are taking part in pre-booked activities. Accidents can also happen on the road while travelling by coach or taxi, but you can make a holiday compensation claim for any incidents if your transfers were included in the package holiday.

How do I claim for compensation?

Package holidays which are booked through a UK travel agency are covered by UK law. This means that you can make a compensation claim if you have an accident at any stage of the holiday that is counted as part of your package deal. This may include flights, travel by land or sea, the accommodation and transfers. Accident Advice Helpline can assist if you have an accident, injury or incur an illness that is someone else’s fault while visiting Istanbul on a package holiday. We work with a team of expert solicitors who can advise you on the next steps to take with your claim at no upfront cost to you.
