Visiting ancient monuments is one of the best ways to relax on holiday – lying on the beach is lovely but it can be a bit boring after a while, but wandering round an ancient site is a fabulous way to soak up some of the local culture. It would seem at first sight to be a very safe way to spend the odd afternoon, but it can be quite hazardous, especially if the ancient site in question is still in the process of being excavated.
Watch out for sightseeing slips and falls when visiting ancient monuments
Simple steps to ensure your safety will mean that you get the most out of your visit to an ancient monument, both in the UK or abroad. Firstly, take care of your purse and wallet. Many ancient sites have people around the outside selling cheap maps or guides. These are a genuine bargain sometimes, but in some cases are being sold just so that the pick pockets can spot where your money is. Keep some small change in an accessible pocket to confuse them. If you feel your bag or camera being taken your first thought is probably to pull back but don’t – nothing you own is worth dying for and fatal injuries are not unknown.
Ouch! I fell over when sightseeing. Can I claim compensation after visiting ancient monuments?
Slips and trips are generally more common than theft and mugging and are by far the majority of compensation claims we get asked about. If the trip or fall was caused by someone else’s inattention or lack of responsible behaviour, you may have a strong case to claim compensation. Get in touch with us at Accident Advice Helpline with the details of what happened to you and one of our experienced staff will be able to talk you through it and help you decide whether you may be eligible for a compensation payment. Sometimes a slip or trip is just an accident which is nobody’s fault, but if signs are absent or inadequate then a claim would be a very valid way forward.
You may have a claim
When you call us we will make full inquiries into your claim. But first of all, can you answer ‘yes’ to these questions?:
- Was the trip or slip someone else’s fault?
- Did you seek medical attention at the time or shortly after?
- Did the accident happen less than three years ago?
If the answers to the above are ‘yes’ then you may be able to claim – call today and chat to one of our staff. They are all professional and friendly and can give you advice on the spot usually, so give us a call.
