    Survivor guide: BUPA Westminster Mile

These days, there is a run that suits everyone. If the marathon is just a little too long for you, then there are other races for more inexperienced runners that perhaps want to practise and build up to a marathon, or want to simply test their wits. The BUPA Westminster Mile is a relatively new race and is open to everyone, and it invites people to run just one mile around St James’s Park in London. If you want to take part in the 2015 race, then here is a survivor guide to make sure you stay safe during the race at all times.

    Pace yourself

Accidents such as slips, trips and falls often happen during races and marathons, but by doing something as simple as pacing yourself can help you avoid a slip or trip. It can be quite tempting to run as fast as you possibly can when taking part in a race or marathon, but you really should pace yourself and run at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Pushing yourself and running at a speed you aren’t used to can put you at risk of a fall or trip, meaning you may cut your mile-long run short and miss out altogether. Take it slow and do what is comfortable for you.

    Wear sensible clothing

When running, it is paramount that you are comfortable, because when you aren’t, you put yourself at risk of a trip or slip accident. Wear comfortable, cool clothing that allow you to move easily and make sure your running shoes are comfortable and tied properly.

    Stay hydrated

When running, you sweat, so it is imperative that you stay hydrated, so your reflexes are quick, and you don’t have an episode of feeling dizzy or tired. These things can cause you to slip over, causing a nasty injury that will make your BUPA Westminster Mile unforgettable for all of the wrong reasons.

    Listen to instructions

When you arrive at St James’ Park, you are likely to be given expertise and instructions by the organisers. Make sure you listen to it and take everything they say into account. Your safety is paramount and the organisers know this, so you don’t put yourself at risk of an accident by simply not taking notice.
