    Who do I sue in the event of a faulty product claim?

    When buying a product you are entitled to the following rights under UK law:

    • The goods should match any description the seller has given
    • The goods should be of satisfactory quality
    • If you bought the goods online, you have the right to change your mind even if there is nothing wrong with the goods

    When you purchase a new product you expect it to have gone through a number of checks and be safe for public use. In the vast majority of cases this will apply, and the products will be safe to use. However, every now and again a faulty product does slip through the net. Sometimes this will happen on a large scale, prompting a product recall.

    If you have purchased a faulty product, you may be liable to suffering a personal injury. This could be a slip or fall, from a faulty exercise machine, or a burn or accident at work from faulty electrical equipment. Faulty product claims can also include food items which have been stored incorrectly and caused food poisoning.

    What should I do if I have bought a faulty product?

    If you have purchased a faulty product and subsequently suffered a faulty product injury, such as a slip, trip or fall, work accident or food poisoning, then you may be entitled to compensation.

    To make a successful faulty product claim, you need to prove that someone else was responsible for your personal injury. To help your case, you should report the accident to the person responsible as soon as possible. You should also keep your product receipt, as well as the product itself if possible, and take contact details for any witnesses to your accident.
